WHY NEUROTHERAPY?

WHY NEUROTHERAPY?

NEUROTHERAPY OVERVIEW

Neurotherapy, Neurofeedback (NFB), Biofeedback, or Brainwave Training is an alternative to medicinal treatment, and utilizes real-time displays of electroencephalography (EEG) to highlight brain activity. By recording brain wave activity with sensors placed on the head, we can collect details about why someone might be experiencing symptoms based on what is measured in the brain.

States of over-arousal or under-arousal in the brain can contribute to symptoms of anxiety, attention deficit (ADD/ADHD), and other common conditions.

Once the initial information has been collected from a number of sties on your head, Neurotherapy can be used to track brain wave activity, and train the brain to perform more efficiently by giving a visual and auditory feedback response as brain wave patterns balance, and self-regulation happens.

Neurotherapy training is achieved through experiencing visual feedback that darkens and brightens on a screen as brainwave patterns change. These changes are in sync with brain wave activity and “re-train” and form new neural pathways in the brain. During the Neurotherapy sessions, neuroplasticity produces long-term favorable results.

HOW THE BRAIN WORKS

In order to fully comprehend how Neurotherapy works, we need to understand how the brain works. The systems that govern the human brain are the most complicated and compact in the world.

For the brain to operate efficiently, the many parts of the brain need to communicate with one another effectively. The brain achieves this communication by sending electrical signals along neurons that link one part of the brain to another. These electrical signals are brain waves.

Neurofeedback therapy corrects the signal messaging to produce the desired change in the brain, which relieves the symptoms through a process called brain plasticity or “neuroplasticity”.

Neuroplasticity refers to the brain's ability to change and adapt throughout life. The chief principle behind neuroplasticity is "neurons that fire together, wire together"!

This concept is that, when two neurons fire in the brain at the exact same time, they become connected to one another or “synchronized”, and the neuronal connections become much more powerful.

Neurofeedback therapy helps with both balancing brain wave patterns and the process of “neuroplastic modification”.

QEEG TESTING and Brain Mapping

Using a QEEG (quantitative electroencephalography), we are able to get an initial, comprehensive reading of baseline activity levels in each part of the brain.

We collect this information by having clients wear an electrocap that resembles a "swim cap" and contains multiple sensors that painlessly measures the brain wave activity in the various areas of the brain.

These sensors feed measurements back to the computer system, recording the particular levels of activity. The sum of these readings produces what is called a QEEG brain map, specific to each client’s brain wave activity.

THE RETRAINING PROCESS

While watching a video, DVD or brain game of their choice, clients are challenged to keep brain wave states as specified to keep the video from fading, or the game from pausing (operant conditioning).

While watching a video, DVD or brain game of their choice, clients are challenged to keep brain wave states as specified to keep the video from fading, or the game from pausing (operant conditioning).

When brainwaves regulate into the given criteria, the screen brightens, or game responds (reward). When brainwaves move outside of the criteria, the movie dims, or the game pauses. A feedback loop is created, strengthening favorable shifts in brainwave activity over and over again, developing new, long-term neuropathways.

THE RETRAINING PROCESS

Once the QEEG brain map is evaluated, the appropriate protocol, or plan, is selected. Specific criteria is used to create the protocols and they are input into the computer software. Clients then have sensors placed on their head at the specific sites associated with their areas of dysregulation.
